St. Patrick's Day 2018

St. Patrick's Day 2018

For some reason, even though I've been living in Dallas for who knows how many years now, I had not been to the St Patrick's Day Block Party.

Well, it's 2018 and that needed to change. As you can imagine, I had my camera with me, so here's a little visual journal of what I saw. If you see yourself feel free to download your photo or share this post, and thank you for letting me snap a pic or two of you :)

Let's get to it!

First of all you need a solid, fun crew, and this was (part of) mine:

 Selfie!

She was happy to find another ginger in the house.

Security guard: "Just don't puke on yourselves". "We got this". As far as I know nobody in our crew puked on themselves. We are grown-ups!

Even the cops were in party mood and down to take photos with "randos":

The "randos" being my friends, of course.

My friend peaking on the party next door.

Meanwhile the crowd below was starting to get rowdy, in the best of ways.

Plenty of drinks were drunk, and I was taking a few spontaneous portraits:

 I tried playing paparazzi...

I tried playing paparazzi...

... but she caught me. So I ended up making new friends and taking photos of her whole group. I think I won here.

(Pause in the festivities to go visit the infamous porta-potties.)

 Pictured: porta-potties.

While in line, I heard behind my back: "Somebody just told me I looked like a real-life Snapchat filter."

Another example of me trying to capture a spontaneous portrait and getting busted:

So I ended up making new friends, again. While waiting in line at the porta-potties.

Back to the rooftop!

By the way, I didn't have any right to be on that rooftop like everybody else there, as I didn't pay or had a wristband. But there's a little known secret here: if you have a camera in hand and you walk like you belong there, nobody questions you.

.... You didn't hear it from me, though ;)

The crowd below was getting bigger, wilder and and greener.

 Where's Waldo?

Where's Waldo?

Round 2 of spontaneous portraits on the rooftop:

 "Let's take a boomerang!"

"Let's take a boomerang!"

 Double-fisting in action.

 Math!

 Part sexy-wink, part the-sun-is-blinding-me-wink.

Then I decided to join the crowd below.

Round 3 of spontaneous portraits!

 "Who, me?"

"Who, me?"

"But what about my friends?" Ok, fine.

 Wasaaaaaaaaap?!!!

Wasaaaaaaaaap?!!!

"Kissable McNoodles", which turns out is the number 1 name in Ireland, look it up! (Don't look it up.)

(Don't look it up.)

 Kiss me I'm Irish!

Kiss me I'm Irish!

Walking around I saw a frowny-face leaning on a rail. I wanted to take a photo but as soon as she saw me she started smiling. The lesson here: cameras make people happy.

 "Ok fine, I'm happy now."

"Ok fine, I'm happy now."

Irish viking? Is that a thing?

"I've never been this sober at the parade, I had no idea it went beyond 2pm!"

"Yo soy el Irish". Mexico was representing hard at the Parade, here's one of the many Mexico Jerseys I spotted.

And everything was love and hugs until....

 WORLDSTAR!!!!

WORLDSTAR!!!!

A fight broke out, and 2 women started punching each other in the face. Classic. But the cops got there immediately to stop it.

David_Alpuche_St_Patricks_39

And less than 3.6 seconds later.... back to party!

 OH! OH! OH!

OH! OH! OH!

Because apparently nothing is too much for St. Patricks costumes.

 Ea! Ea! Ea!

Ea! Ea! Ea!

Shortly after it started raining, and I started the pilgrimage home, but the people watching never stops.

 They knew.

They knew.

But for some, the party was just starting:

... in more ways than one.... *giggity*

I still don't know what St. Patrick's Day is really supposed to be about, but the "wear green and get drunk in the middle of the day" was a lot of fun. Everybody was there to enjoy a beautiful day and you could see the love everywhere you looked. Well, except that time those women were punching each other.  But that was just one time.

Anyway... Time to go.

Happy St. Patrick's Day 2018, y'all!

One of my favorite things about taking photos with people is that sometimes I get to be part of their lives long after we work together for the first time.

I worked with Evelyn and David when they got married, and months later I had the lovely opportunity to work with them again, when they were expecting their first baby together. Seeing "my couples" grow, and being there to capture it, makes me immensely happy.

Here are some of the pics we took, and all my love to them.

A Walk In The Park

Last night I went for a walk with my camera and this is what I saw:

 "Butterflies"

"Butterflies"

 "Slenderman"

"Slenderman"

"This is your brain on nature"

"This is your brain on nature"

Midway through I came across this:

 "Duh!"

"Duh!"

... and suddenly love was in the air!

 "Love"

"Love"

 "A bunch of love"

"A bunch of love"

 "But seriously, love one another."

"But seriously, love one another."

Then I went back to taking pictures of trees, because that was the only thing around.

 "Flames"

"Flames"

 "Goldrush"

"Goldrush"

 "50 shades of grey"

"50 shades of grey"

 "Underwater"

"Underwater"

And that was it. Nothing special happened, but sometimes you need a night like this.

Thanks for watching!
